Dairy, frozen help BJ's boost comps

Breakfast foods, dairy, frozen and juices were among the categories that helped propel BJ’s Wholesale Club, Natick, Mass., to a 2.9% comparable club sales increase in merchandise departments for January versus the same month last year.
For the fourth quarter, merchandise comps were up 2.3% and, for the full fiscal year, they gained 4.0%. Overall comparable club sales, including fuel, were up 8.4% for January, 4.6% for the quarter and down 1.9% for the full fiscal year.
Total sales were up 13% in January to $742.6 million, 9.4% for the fourth quarter to $2.74 billion and 1.6% for the full fiscal year to $9.95 billion.
In January, food sales increased by 4.0%, and general merchandise sales were about flat to last year.
