Frozen vendors featured in Walgreen diversity initiative
February 2, 2010
In part to celebrate Black History Month, Walgreen Co., Deerfield, Ill., is introducing a new program dubbed Community Corner designed to highlight the successes of minority-owned businesses, the company announced, including those producing frozen foods.
Among the producers featured in the program are Reggio’s Pizza and Richard’s Ice Cream, both of Chicago.
Walgreen plans to recognize minority-owned vendors through print advertisements, in-store announcements, coupon booklets, shelf tags, in-store product demonstrations and Walgreens.com. The company will launch the program by identifying products made by African-American vendors during February to honor Black History Month. On Feb. 5 and 6, select Walgreen stores will host special events that will spotlight products from the featured vendors and allow customers to taste and take home samples.
At different points later in the year, Walgreen plans on expanding its Community Corner program to feature products from businesses owned by women, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and Asian Americans, the retailer stated.
