Aldi confirmed today that it is planning a store in Queens, N.Y., and shooting for a 2010 opening date.
Spokesperson Heather Tarczan told RFFR that right now, the property selection is ongoing, and that Aldi had not finalized a site, although the company hopes to have a location identified by the end of October.
Aldi recently sped up its store expansion efforts, which had been limited to 20 to 30 new locations annually, rolling out 100 last year across the United States and planning 75 for 2009. Among the new territories that it is entering as part of the recent expansion push is Texas. The Queens store would be Aldi’s first in New York City.
